The 25-year-old Swedish woman suffered major heart failure while the couple vacationed in France earlier this year. She fell ill for several days before the condition worsened dramatically, requiring repeated CPR sessions lasting up to hours to sustain her life. Medical teams kept her on life support for weeks in a French hospital until a donor heart became available, allowing the transplant procedure.
Dahlin, who delayed his return to the Sabres as long as possible ahead of training camp last fall, first shared details of the ordeal in a joint letter to fans in September 2025. He credited the CPR efforts with preventing a tragic outcome and praised the healthcare professionals for their expertise. The couple expressed deep gratitude to organ donors, emphasizing how the donation granted Matovac a second chance.
